It is widely accepted that over the next two decades households and businesses need to transition away from burning fossil fuels to generate heat for our homes and commercial buildings. Currently approximately 80% of Scotland’s building stock relies on natural gas to meet its heating needs. Both the Scottish Government and local councils across the Lothians have set themselves ambitious targets to adopt low carbon heating solutions for local buildings.
CHEF seeks to support this goal at the scale of the Edinburgh city region. It brings together community-led organisations, academic researchers and local energy professionals to raise awareness and support learning around sustainable heating solutions. We want to bring low carbon heating into the mainstream in particular the city-wide adoption of low carbon heat networks.
